Thermgard ® connectors utilize a strategically placed patented thermal sensor in the connector face that constantly monitors the temperature of the ground power connector at the aircraft. When the temperature at this connection reaches the predetermined setting (130°C) the sensor causes the 400Hz power to disconnect from the aircraft, eliminating the heat (power) source. The rejection of the 400Hz ground power to the aircraft alerts the ramp technician to investigate the cause.
Most existing J&B ground power cable assemblies can be retrofitted in the field to include this protective feature. Simply change the existing replacement contact section (nose) to the new Thermgard ® replacement contact section, part number JB7178 .
